Another week!

Pittman Visitors Center
Altoona, FL

Sometimes one week looks quite like the other.

We have somewhat of a routine now.
Monday is our busiest day in the forest.
We go around to all our areas,
emptying garbage cans,
pressure washing,
and picking up trash on the roads.
Both of us are amazed at what people throw on the forest roads!
Plastic water bottles, beer cans, McDonald's bags,
and plastic bags..sometimes with empty cold medicine packages.
Hmm, either a lot of sick people, or... ;-)

To try and get our 24 hours in, we also patrol the roads
to make sure there are no illegal campers,
or hunters doing anything they shouldn't.
I also am in charge of testing the water here at Pittman twice a week.
I guess my past life at the water company came with me!

Sometimes we have to go to safety meetings,
or in the case of Wednesday,
we got to get our CPR certificates updated
by attending a CPR class.
There were 8 of us there,
learning CPR, how to use an AED,
and basic first aid.

When we're not working for the forest,
you can find us enjoying the nice warm Florida weather.

We've also gotten together with our neighbors,
going out to eat, play Hand & Foot, Fast Track, and just have a great time!

I am planning a trip to California in January.
Looks like I will fly out of Orlando into Monterey.
I want to spend some time with Mom & Dad for awhile.
George will stay in Florida for the time being, working our shift.

We both hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas season,
and are preparing hearts for the birth of our Son!

  3. Thank goodness your parents also live in a warm climate. I'd hate to fly from Florida to a cold destination.

  4. It is amazing how trashy people who come into the outdoors to enjoy it can be. I'm glad there are people like you who clean up after them but it sure seems unfair that you have to do it. Nice views from your chairs there. Have a safe trip to visit your parents. Monterey sounds like a great place for the holidays.

  5. Think of all the good things you'd be able to do if you didn't have to spend so much time picking up thoughtless people's trash. I can't understand why they find it so hard to carry their trash to a receptacle. Makes you wonder what their house looks like.

Water testing? Funny how your past life can return to haunt you... ;c)

  9. I agree it's a shame you have to pick up other people's trash. Why do they have to be so careless?!

Sure looks like a nice place to relax during your down time.
