I sure will be glad when this work stuff will be over.
NOT the workamp stuff..
the 'other' work :-(
We've been here at Coyote since Monday 12/17.
If you remember, I agreed to stay on as President of the
bottled water company until the end of the year.
I have been doing some work for them from home,
logging into the computer and preparing financial statements,
and any other issues that arise that I can do from home.
That hasn't been an issue, really, and the $$ and health insurance
I don't want to complain about :-)
However...
there are some things going on there that have taken up a lot of my time..
a LOT.
Projects that require a lot of computer time, spreadsheets to be worked on..
and,
now I'm in another time zone, which means that conference calls
have to be done at 6 am PST.
I'm not a morning person :-)
So enough complaining..
The last couple days we've been shadowing the other couple that
is workamping here. Very nice couple from Minnesota (don't ya know) :-)
George is in his element, driving a golf cart around,
filling propane,
and generally enjoying putzing around seeing what he can do.
We don't officially start until Thursday 12/27, and at that point
we will be working 3 1/2 days (4 hr/8 hr/8 hr/8 hr) shifts, with 4 days off.
It's not a hard job at all, and this is a nice park, and nice people here.
A lot of month to month rigs, but no rig under 10 years old!

Here's a few..
Since I was up early,
a nice sunrise out our back window..
Wednesday evening we drove down to my parents house
(Ted & Leanne) to go to my home church's Advent service.
Afterwards we stopped in to the restaurant where my son works,
to have a drink with him, his girlfriend, and some of her family.
We will see them again on Christmas day.
Yesterday I went down to Salinas to get a haircut and color.
The salon where my Mom goes is terrific. The girl that did
my hair did a great job, and I'm blonde again :-)
Today I got caught up on everyone's blogs (sorry for all the late comments).
I've been so busy with the work thing, I haven't had time for MY stuff on here!
I promise more posts about the work we will do here, and more pictures :-)
Working two jobs - what a bummer!
ReplyDeleteAre you each working that whole time, or splitting the time between you? Is it just for your site or any $$ involved? I don't mean to pry, but inquiring workampers need details ;-). Looks like a nice place.
ReplyDeleteNope, it's 28 hours per couple. Only for site. We get a discount on propane, a roll of quarters for laundry each Friday. Not to mention the pool & hot tub :)
DeleteThat sounds like a good park, and 2.5 days of work is nice. Just enough to get to know everyone, and still 4 days to do your own thing. Nice...
ReplyDeleteI used to live in south San Jose west of the 101 and my parents were in Gilroy, so I drive go through Morgan Hill to visit them. Back roads - at that time 101 was called Blood Alley because of all the accidents on that road. Wow, that was over 35 years ago. There were lots of ranches and bare land then. I'll bet it's all built up now. :)
I remember Blood Alley intimately. I lived in Prunedale (just north of Salinas) and commuted on it to San Jose State for two years while going to college.

Sounds like a great trade, 28 hours between the two of you for site/electric/sewer and the discounts. Just sorry you have to still be tied to your old job BUT if they are really going to let you go at the end of the year, it's only 10 days away!

ReplyDeleteAlright! Congratulations! You two are in Morgan Hill. I do like that area lots. Be sure to get out to see San Juan Batista. Neat little town. You'll enjoy the work camping so much more when you don't have all that other work I am sure. Hope you have a very wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you decide to come up Petaluma way, give us a shout. Would love to have a meal with you or coffee. (John sold his boat down in Moss Landing so we probably won't make it down that way anytime soon.) Take care you two...

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the best kind of workamping job, fun stuff to do, easy hours, lots of days off, and a hot tub. Did I mention the hot tub? Not that I'm jealous or anything... ;c)

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear workamper job is enjoyable. Judy and I will be returning to Blanton Creek Park the last week of Feb. Isn't it nice interacting with people who are relaxing. I know you will make many friends with the campers there. I look forward to reading about you experience there. Judy and I may be looking for a position in OR, MT, or CO next season (14).

ReplyDeleteKen and I worked full time jobs while we work-kamped for two seasons. We enjoyed the hosting position but working 40 hours, then adding at least 20 more hours required by the campground became a bit much. Once we officially retire, we will revisit the workamping positions. It sure helps with expenses with the full time RVing. Merry Christmas!
