Moochdocking
Bakersfield, CA
Our week at Catalina State Park in Tucson
came to an end.
We really enjoyed the area, and will definitely return.
We really enjoyed the area, and will definitely return.
We were not sure where we would stay on our
way to our next destination,
Bakersfield, CA
We really did not want to drive any long days,
so thought we might overnight in the Palm Springs area.
When we checked the forecast, we saw that there
was a winter weather advisory for the Tehachapi mountains
for Wednesday.
If we stayed in Palm Springs, we would be driving over the
Tehachapis right about the time the storm might dump some snow there.
So...
in fine Paul Dahl fashion..
we high-tailed it all the way to Barstow, CA from Tuscon.
An 8 hour trip, and 510 miles!
Along the way we saw..
lots of windmills..
We stayed overnight in the parking lot of a lovely
old restaurant called
The food was fantastic, and they welcome RVrs with open arms!
This morning we got up early to head over the pass
before any of the white stuff came down.
We were lucky, the sun was out. It is snowing there now, though!
We are now in Bakersfield, where I was born, and lived until I was 17.
My aunt & uncle have graciously invited us to stay on their horse property,
where they have full hook-ups..
nice!
My uncle had a motorhome, and has a whole garage full
of RV things. It was like Camping World ;-)
We have one more state to add to our map..
but that will be all until April.
We'll be here in Bakersfield until Monday,
then heading north to San Juan Bautista to
spend Christmas with my parents and older son.
Then it will be work camping time!
Can't believe it was just over a month ago you were here on the east coast!! Wish we had relatives with a full hookup site...need to show that photo to our son;o))
ReplyDeleteBoy, George must have really been boogeying down the road, lol! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood call on the overnight. But whew that day is about 4X too long for me! :-)) I'm just amazed at how many RVers have friends or relatives with a full hook up site. Really nice! I don't seem to have the right relatives or friends!
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it safely, although that was a long, long stretch. We've never come close to anything like that. Our longest day has been 260 miles and that was way too long :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place to be. Your uncle could open a new RV business!
I'm proud of you, you've been great students of the Paul Dahl School of Excessively Long Driving (PDSELD). :c)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to California, enjoy all the money being sucked out of your wallets with their crazy high prices. :c(
Hey, I recognize that road and those windmills, glad you made it safe and sound over the pass!
ReplyDeleteThat's covering a lot of miles! Hearing about your stop in Barstow brings back some memories for me. Judy and I stayed there while driving to Port Hueneme, Ca.
ReplyDeleteWhew! That's a long drive, but understand you gotta do what you gotta do. Glad you were able to avoid the white stuff.
