The Gulf!

Fort Pickens Campground
Gulf Islands National Seashore, FL

We had a very long travel day today.
400 miles and a little over 6 hours.
Yuck.

The end result was worth it!

After we went through Pensacola,
we were amazed that we were
driving onto a thin piece of land.
There was water on both sides of us,
not much wider than a two lane road.
Finally we ended up in Fort Pickens.
We are taking advantage of George's
senior pass, and our stay is only
$10 per night!

We got backed into a nice paved site,

got settled, then took a walk
around the campground,
and to the beach.

The weather is looking glorious
for the week we will be here.

Looks like a beach day tomorrow!

  4. Ahhh...we were headed to Ft Pickens in late August but one of the tropical storms veered us inland. Enjoy!

  6. When we drove from Florida to Colorado in the spring, we took the coastal road through the panhandle rather than I10. It was beautiful! Reminded me of our home are back on Long Island. Only issues were finding a gas station we would fit into :-)!

  7. This is about the best time of year to be in Pensacola. We lived there for many years. Be sure to take the fort tour and visit the Naval Aviation Museum. Have fun!
