We have some making up to do!
Between George's surgeries and my trip to CA,
we need to get hopping to finish up our summer here.
Yesterday we took a drive up to Sylvan Lake Lodge.
I had read that there was good lunch to be had there,
and we could sit outside as well.
The weather was perfect yesterday, so off we went.
Of course it's bike week here in the Black Hills,
so the streets of Custer are lined with motorcycles.
To get to the Lodge,
there is a small part of the Needles highway
to go through, and some narrow tunnels.
Motorcycles have no problem!
We got to the Lodge, it is beautiful!
We had a nice table outside..
There was some great things on the menu,
including some great tomato-basil soup.
The views from the back were incredible!
We've been wanting to go wine tasting as well,
there are several wineries in the area.
Our first stop was Stone Faces...
named not for the famous ones on the mountain,
but the rock face across the street :-)
We tasted 5 different wines,
with some clever names such as
and the official wine for the rally..
We bought 3 bottles!
The next winery is Prairie Berry.
They have some pretty good wines as well,
but are a bit more commercial than Stone Faces.
I forgot to take a picture of their tasting room,
this one is from the internet..
We tasted 5 different wines there, plus they had samples
of wine slushies :-)
We brought home 4 bottles from there,
including some interesting tasting ones.
My favorite name of one is Lawrence Elk :-)
Today we're finally getting to go to the
We're both looking forward to it!
