We escaped!

Jekyll Island Campground
Jekyll Island, GA

After 6 long months workamping in Florida,
we finally get to have some fun!

Today we hit the road around 10:30, driving north around 176 miles.
We pulled into Jekyll Island Campground around 2 pm.
It was an easy drive around Jacksonville, and the weather was great!

The campground is an older one, with huge live oaks shading everything.
It is very crowded for a Monday,
we were surprised that the campground is full!
We have a great FHU, pull-through site, B9.
Because of all the trees, we don't have satellite,
but there's great free WiFi and cable in the park.

A great couple that we met at the RV Dreams rally in Franklin, NC,
Kathy & Paul Anderson, decided to meet us here this week.
We've been keeping in touch with them via Facebook,
and it worked out perfectly!

After we got set up, we rode our bikes over to their site,
and caught up over a glass of wine.
They've been full-timing for 6 months, and are loving it!
We all hopped on our bikes and rode to
Driftwood Bistro for a bite to eat.
I had Shrimp & Grits, and George had meatloaf.
It was the best meal!

From there we rode our bikes down to driftwood beach.
Wow!
I've seen pictures on other RVers blogs,
but pictures don't do it justice.
It is just beautiful!

Not a cloud in the sky!

We continued our ride a little farther along and walked
on a fishing pier, watching the birds,
and a nice yacht..

It was finally time to head back, the sun was setting..

We can't wait to explore more of this wonderful place!

  2. Marti and I watched a sunset from that very pier. Jekyll Island is a very special place. Make sure to go to the Turtle rehab place, it's amazing the work they do there.

  4. Great to be free again isn't it. For us 6 more weeks at the gate. Really getting tired of it. But gotta keep thinking of why we do this. Happy traveling.

  5. Love Jekyll and I’m anxious to read your posts. St. Simons is an interesting place to visit, too, and I know just about everyone has heard about Cumberland, but you can stay busy seeing new things for quite a while on Jekyll. Have a great time.
