Updates, etc.

Pittman Visitors Center
Altoona, FL

We haven't posted in awhile, but we've been busy!

I wanted to give an update on my Dad as well.
As most of you know, he was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic cancer in July.
He has been undergoing chemo since August.
Since then, he is pain free!
He has had CT, and PET scans,
and the results have been favorable..
the tumors have not grown!
God answers prayers :-)

Meanwhile...

George and I have been making our site here at the VC our own.
We rearranged some things outside to make it more comfortable..

We've gotten to know our neighbors, Jim & Carol..
I'll have to get some pictures of them!

Yesterday, Ellis came by to show us our job for the next 6 months.

We will be driving a government pickup truck,
and collecting trash at 6 different locations.
They include a campground, trailheads,
and primitive campgrounds.
Some of them are down 10 miles of dirt roads!

When needed, we'll be pressure washing the bathrooms.

Some of the campgrounds are very nice..
if you like tenting :-)

We got volunteer tee shirts, hats & hoodies,
and a box of supplies..

We both had to have not only an online driving test,
but Ellis had to observe our driving skills as well.
George & I followed Ellis back to his site to pick up our supplies.

There was a little excitement on our route yesterday.
A woman in a brand new car tangled up with a bear.
It happened right behind us, but we didn't see it.
She followed us all the way down the dirt road,
as she saw that we were in a gov't vehicle.
She wasn't sure what to do!
We went back out onto the main road,
George and Ellis looked for the bear,
but the bear was already gone.

The sheriff came and said that the bear was probably just stunned, and ran off.
It didn't do a lot of damage to the car, so she went on her way too.

We're also seeing some of the Florida beauty..

Today we're going to wash the gov't truck inside and out..
(George's idea..lol).
Tomorrow we start making our rounds!

  6. Good that they provide the truck to pick up the trash. Would not want to tangle with a bear with my own truck.
