Quiet week

Pittman Visitor Center
Altoona, FL

We're starting to learn more about the area we are staying in here in Florida.

We've found a great place to buy groceries, at Winn-Dixie.
They have a fuel program, giving us $.05 off per gallon for every $50 spent.
There is a Wal-Mart in Mt. Dora, which is fairly close for our prescription needs.
I searched online for a Lutheran church nearby to attend.
Today, I even found a place to get my haircut while we're here..

I like it pretty short, and she certainly did that for me!
Next I need to find a pedicure place, and George a place to get coffee while waiting :-)

We got to know our neighbors, Jim & Carol, a bit more,
and met another volunteer couple, Bob & Rosemary.
All the employees and volunteers met at Doe Lake Campground
for the monthly safety meeting.
Afterwards the 6 of us went to Pizza Hut for the lunchtime buffet.

We also found out that one of the volunteer areas hosts a Thanksgiving dinner.
Everyone signs up to bring something on the list..
for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
It will be fun to socialize with some more of the volunteers.
There are around 60!

The weather here has been pretty decent.
Temps in the high 70's, and lows in the 50's.
Today we have had rain all day, so have been doing inside things.
Supposed to clear up tomorrow, it will be time to start our rounds again :-)

  1. The weather temps sound pretty good to me! This will be our first winter in Florida too so I hope they keep it up :)
PS-I'm kinda partial to really short hair and I love yours :)

  2. Cute haircut! Are you on the lookout for a place that can serve George a donut along with his coffee? ;-)

  3. sounds like a great place! Glad you made it to Florida! Are you very far from us? East side or west side?

  4. In that safety meeting did they cover the dangers of donuts and pizza? ;c)

Glad to see you have some time off to have fun with your co-workers.

  5. You are in our neck of the woods now. You should check out Eustis. There is a great Mexican restaurant called Sol de Mexico located at 125 N Bay St. Also on Lake Weir there is a restaurant called Gator Joe's. You can eat on the water. If you want to take a day trip you can always check out Winter Garden. It's only about 45 minutes from Mt. Dora. They have a great farmer's market and a bike trail that runs through downtown.

  6. Wow 60 volunteers!!! Sounds like you are starting to feel right at home. Those temperatures sound perfect.

  7. Yep...short hair rocks!!!

Love the sound of those temps... You're in charge of keeping the cold weather north of Florida;o)))

  8. Great temps, new friends and a great job, life doesn't get much better.

  9. How cool that you will have special plans for Thanksgiving.
